Pointr begins project with US Homeland Security to enhance passenger experience at Airports
- AI/AR leader for ‘Smart Venues’ will help U.S Homeland Security augment its U.S. Customs and Border Protection capabilities
- Pointr will be delivering solution in partnership with Arup
- This is the first award under this tender
14th August 2018 – London – Pointr announced that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) awarded Arup USA Inc. a contract to deliver wayfinding technology through the Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP). Arup has partnered with Pointr Limited of London, a UK startup that specializes in AI/AR infused indoor-location technology and analytics for the contract. This award seeks to augment U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) capabilities through enhancing navigational resources available to international travelers.
Pointr proposes to deliver real-time navigation and orientation information to aid users when processing through CBP facilities at airports. The capabilities will be delivered through the use of cloud services, smartphones and augmented reality options integrated with low-energy Bluetooth® Beacons installed throughout an airport. The system will also provide DHS real-time analytics on queues, wait-times and other relevant quality-of-service information, enabling CBP to improve passenger experiences.
“We are excited to be working with DHS in partnership with Arup and believe Pointr is in a unique position to make this a reality for all US airports. Having already delivered award winning international airport projects such as Gatwick and Dubai Airports using our Deep Location® platform, we are uniquely positioned to deliver compelling solutions. I believe this is the reason why we are chosen as a partner for this great project. Smart airports (and venues) are the evolution of indoor experiences and projects like this will only advance the industry further.
“The Pointr/Arup collaboration will deliver a technology that has low setup cost, requires minimal maintenance and is accessible to smartphone users. The services, which will be available both online and offline, will follow privacy best practices and allow users to opt-in.
